How to Prepare Your SaaS for a Product Review

•7 min read

A founder-friendly checklist for getting your SaaS ready for a product review, demo recording, or public walkthrough.

Start with the first five minutes

Most reviewers and prospects will form their strongest impression during the first five minutes of using your product. That means the landing page, signup experience, and first-run experience matter far more than edge-case features.

Before requesting a review, walk through your own product as if you have never seen it before. Where would a skeptical founder get confused? Where would they hesitate? That is where to focus first.

Prepare a usable demo account

A review moves faster and lands better when the reviewer can access a realistic account with sample data already loaded. Empty products are hard to evaluate because there is nothing meaningful to react to.

Seed your account with enough content to demonstrate the core workflow. Make sure permissions are set correctly and remove any dead ends that are caused only by incomplete setup.

  • Use realistic sample projects or customer records
  • Make the primary workflow reachable in one or two clicks
  • Provide any required credentials in advance

Tighten the value proposition

If a reviewer cannot explain what your product does in one sentence, your audience probably cannot either. Make sure your homepage headline, navigation labels, and onboarding copy all reinforce the same core message.

Strong positioning helps a reviewer tell a coherent story about your product. Weak positioning turns the review into a guessing exercise.

Decide what feedback you want most

The broad goal might be exposure, but founders usually have one or two deeper questions. Maybe you want feedback on onboarding. Maybe you want to know whether the pricing page makes sense. Maybe you suspect the feature set is strong but the messaging is off.

Tell the reviewer what kind of feedback would be most useful. That helps them spend more time on the areas that can move the product forward.
